When it comes to skin care, many of us would have tried products with the hopes of seeing immediate results the very next day. While some could zap that zit, provide instant hydration or a whitening boost, these are often temporary measures that scratch at the surface of real skin problems. Achieving true healthy skin is not difficult, but it sure requires a process that actually takes time.
You may have heard many transformative stories from our DR’s Secret users, but most, if not all will tell you that there was a transition period they had to go through.
We compiled a list of common skin reactions faced by DR’s Secret users during this transition phase and how to deal with them.
Common skin reactions faced by DR’s Secret users and how to deal with them
Pimples forming
This is one of the most common skin reactions experienced by those with acne-prone or oily skin.
DR’s Secret products are formulated to increase the skin renewal rate, increasing the exfoliation of dead skin cells so that new cells can be brought to the surface.
We need to understand that it can take weeks for acne to form and appear on the skin surface. While regulating our sebum and moisture level, it may also speed up our skin renewal rate, which can cause acne to be brought up to the skin surface faster, thus looking like you’ve just experienced an outbreak. This is also known as purging.
Depending on your skin condition and past skin care habits, using harsh products or applying heavy layers of makeup could have accumulated impurities and toxins in the skin. DR’s Secret helps to push out these toxins in the form of acne so that your skin foundation becomes clear and healthy.
You should see more acne appearing at the same spot where they usually pop up in the past. Depending on your skin condition, this period of purging can range from a few days to 6 months.
What to do?
You may feel discouraged at this point, but do not give up! Continue on with the regime as recommended by your product consultant unless more adverse reactions occur. Once this process is complete and skin has become clear, the occurrence of acne will dramatically decrease.
Reddish and flushed
This could be commonly experienced by those with sensitive or sensitised skin.

What to do?
Use Cleanser 1, Moisturizer 6, Refining Serum 9 and Sunscreen 5 for at least a month until your skin feels more stable. You can then slowly add on more nourishing serums to your regime.
Age Arrest A3 set is also useful for nourishing and repairing skin barrier.
For non-sensitive skin, skin can also appear flushed due to an increase in blood circulation (especially after using Toner T2, Skinlight T3 or Skinrecon T4). As the skin is being nourished, a pinkish or reddish tone might occur, but it should go away in a couple of hours.
Itchy and starting to peel
As the rate of exfoliation increases, old dead skin cells start to shed, and skin may peel so that new skin can be formed.
Some may also experience skin tightness and itchiness. Observe your skin to determine if they are a result of dryness. The appearance of fine lines, uncomfortable tightness together with flakiness or a tingling sensation could reflect a lack of hydration. If there’s no such occurrences, the feelings of tightness and itchiness are likely due to skin being lifted.
What to do?
Hydrate and moisturise skin more with Toner T2 and Moisturizer 6.
Slight heat whenever I apply products
You may experience a slight heat or tingle on your skin surface when applying concentrated serums such as Skinlight T3 or C15 Essence 7. This is indicative that the product is working, and your skin is getting accustomed to the concentrated active ingredients.
This sensation may wear off after a few weeks when skin is accustomed to the products.
What to do?
Apply more Refining Serum 9 to cool skin.
Red spots forming
You could be using a really rich regime and feeding your skin with high amounts of nourishment on a daily basis. Without a good skin foundation (after balancing dry or sensitive skin), using too much product with the desire to see quicker results may become a burden to your skin.
What to do?
If skin irritation occurs, stop any intensive regime and go back to the conditioning regime to nourish and condition your skin barrier.
A strengthened skin barrier will help your skin absorb active ingredients better and amplify the effects of your serums.
Dull and dark
When your skin is renewing itself, the skin surface may appear rough and dull as a result of faster accumulation of dead skin cells.
What to do
Give it a few months and watch your skin become noticeably brighter once the skin renewal process is complete.
Skin care is a very personal journey and depending on your skin history, the duration and journey to skin confidence for everyone is different. To reiterate, real skin improvement takes time and a transition phase is normal and necessary.

I’m using the products, this is my 2nd week and I am developing very dry, red n itchy skin. My pores are also enlarged with pimples purging. Can one be unsuitable for your products?
Hi Elyn! Some people do experience certain skin reactions during the transition phase. You can go back to the conditioning routine and seek advice from your skin buddy if you face any discomfort. 🙂
