Can it be too early to start on anti-ageing skin care? We believe the answer is no. Anti-ageing is a form of preventive skin care. Thus, it is wise to start early than to realise that it’s too late for significant change. Besides, our skin’s natural processes begin to decline from our mid-20s so it’s always good to be prepared.
The topic of anti-ageing may seem complex, but it doesn’t have to be. In fact, we could slow down the ticking clock just by paying attention to our existing skin care habits.
Here we give a breakdown on what you can do in your 20s, 30s and 40s to keep signs of ageing at bay. Note: it’s actually pretty simple!
In your 20s:
This is the time when skin cell turnover rate is healthy and skin generally appears firm with a youthful bounce. A basic routine of cleanse, tone and sun protection is pretty sufficient, but the key is to keep to it consistently.
This means no compromising especially on your SPF. In our busy and active 20s, many tend to miss out or forgo applying and re-applying sunscreen. However, sun protection is the foundational step to any successful anti-ageing routine.
How to choose the best sunscreen?
A general rule of thumb is to choose a functional sunscreen between SPF 25 to SPF 50 and one that is able to block both UVA and UVB rays.
Sunscreens are only effective when constantly worn on your skin. So, SPF levels aside, the best sunscreen is actually the one that you’d always want to wear. This has more to do with the sunscreen’s texture and finishing. Choose a product that makes you feel comfortable and want to keep reapplying all day.
Tip: Those with dry to normal skin may apply Sunscreen 5 while those with oily/combination skin may prefer the more matte Sunscreen Matte 5M.
Start using Eye Creams

Our eye area often takes the biggest hit when our lifestyle includes high screen time and late nights. They say that the eyes are the windows to our soul – and the exposer of our age. Ageing signs around the eyes such as pigmentation, crows’ feet and dark circles are the hardest to eradicate. There’s no turning back once they are set, thus we say include an eye cream in your routine as early as you can.
In your early 30s:
Time to step up on our fight against the clock! Hitting the big 3 means that our body’s metabolism and skin renewal rate start to slow down. This is when we start to add skin-loving actives and ingredients to support the skin’s natural processes.
Level Up your Routines with Serums

Serums are designed to deliver concentrated amounts of specific skin care actives to target a specific condition or achieve a particular result. Brightening serums such as Skinlight T3 and Skinrecon T4 deliver nourishing actives to keep our skin’s natural processes working at optimal levels.

Exfoliate Regularly

Exfoliating helps to remove dead skin cells on our skin surface to reveal fresh, healthy skin. This enables skin care actives to penetrate into our skin more effectively, which means better performance and results.
We recommend exfoliating with Miraglo at least once a week (or once a month for sensitive skin) to help boost skin renewal and glow. Miraglo is a gentle exfoliating cloth that removes dead skin cells with precision without causing abrasion to the skin. Use it together with Cleanser 1 and apply slow upward strokes with the palms of your hands to help your skin appear lifted and firm.
Use Face Masks

On top of your usual skin care routine, indulging in a face mask once to twice a week can help to power things up. Use hydrating masks to build a strong, healthy base for your skin and brightening masks to improve radiance and skin bounce.
We hope this breakdown helps you to grasp the basic know-hows to anti-ageing. Stay tuned as we continue in Part 2 on best practices for those in their late-30s and 40s!
